THE drive to improve the energy efficiency of houses by the Government, has prompted calls for VAT on home improvements.
James Rowlands, public policy officer for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, said: "These moves are a positive first step but must continue to be backed with further action and funding.
"Once people have information on how to make their homes energy efficient actually making the improvements must be as inexpensive as possible.
"VAT on the renovation and repair of buildings should be reduced immediately from 17.5 to 5 per cent, along with additional grants for the installation of loft and cavity wall insulation."
