A man awaiting sentence for affray and possessing a knife in a supermarket had his case adjourned for psychiatric reports.

Raja Khan, 43, was said by his solicitor to be "extremely confused."

Richard Taylor told the hearing there were grave concerns about the defendant's mental capacity.

He added: "He is vacant, unable to give coherent instructions and is extremely confused. He has nasty injuries to his head where he has been banging it against the wall."

Khan, of Kent Street, Burnley, was remanded in custody until May 16 for a psychiatrist to be consulted.
