A drive-in cinema at an abandoned theme park in Lancashire is swapping zombies for a more sun-soaked and family-friendly experience this summer.

Hosted by Park N Party, Summer Knights will be taking over the grounds of the former Camelot Theme Park in Charnock Richard from next month, airing newer films as well as cult classics.

This comes after the success of the company’s immersive zombie drive-thru experience, where guests could watch scary movies while scare actors roam the grounds.

Camelot Rises kicked off in January before the last horrifying movie screening took place earlier this month; while it was on, it attracted the attention of celebrities across the UK, including Love Island’s Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury.

Summer Knights will be a more family-friendly experience with “a movie for everyone” to enjoy and the scare actors will be swapping their zombie makeup for that of classic movie characters.

A spokesperson for Park N Party said: “Following the success of Camelot rises, we wanted to do something that a lot of people will enjoy for summer.

“Summer Knights is brighter and warmer because we wanted to bring summer vibes to Chorley.

“We will still be showing some scary movies and our scare experience will be back for Halloween.

“But right now, it’s nice to change the features a little bit and give people something fresh. It promises to be a great night of entertainment.”

New films, cult classics and singalong favourites will be some of the themed nights on the movie screening list.

Where appropriate, guests are even encouraged to dress up as their favourite movie characters.

The event will kick off on 20 May and run every weekend until 24 June.

Movies can be watched in cars or at the on-site beer garden via a portable radio. Food vendors and a fully licensed bar will also be available on site.

Tickets are £25 per car, plus a booking fee. A spokesperson said they have reduced the ticket price in comparison to previous events in order to accommodate the rising cost of petrol prices.
