A Falklands war veteran is calling on the people of East Lancashire to vote for their heroes in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2021.

Simon Weston, 59, has teamed up with global hearing specialists Amplifon in the hope of uncovering truly remarkable people and pets deserving of national recognition.

The awards will seek to celebrate special achievements in the following categories: Coronavirus Hero, Against All Odds, Charity Champion, Active Agers, Young Hero, Pet Hero and Celebrity Hero.

Weston, who chairs the judging panel, said: “The Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons shine a light on a very British breed of hero - those who through incredible acts of courage, bravery and selflessness, are an inspiration to others.

“We all know of someone who deserves recognition for their bravery to help others, or their outstanding service to their country or community.

“It doesn’t matter whether people know them personally or have read about them in the media, we still want them to nominate their heroes for this year’s Brave Briton awards.”

Last year saw Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford win the Celebrity Hero award, recognising his outstanding campaign to feed under-privileged children during school holidays.

The closing date for entries is Friday 9th July and nominations can be put forward at www.amplifon.com/uk/about-us/brave-briton-awards.

The winners will be announced at an official ceremony at the Army and Navy Club, London, on Tuesday 5th October.
