Confidence is growing amongst the fans that things really are getting better and that there could be a happy ending to this season after all.

On Saturday we were facing the Bluebirds from Barrow, a club struggling to establish themselves in League Two after Ian Evatt had led them there last season.

On paper, it looked like the three points were there for the taking but as we all know, things are different on grass and Barrow were coming to the UniBol on the back of an impressive win at Oldham under their third manager of the season in Rob Kelly.

We certainly dominated the match in terms of possession, but chances were at a premium as Barrow defended magnificently.

In fact, Barrow created the best chance of the first half, for which Matt Gilks had to pull off a good save.

We carried on in a similar vein in the second half until the controversial last couple of minutes, when Barrow seemed to be denied a debatable claim for a penalty and then Shaun Miller tapped in the winner, despite claims for a possible offside.

Without the benefit of replays, these two decisions seemed to go for us but we will accept them as we have had enough decisions go against us this season.

It was hard luck on Barrow, whose efforts deserved something from this match, but it was good for us, getting the points when we were not at our best.

We are up to seventh but mention of the ‘P’ word should remain forbidden for now.

We have 15 more cup finals to play, each one presenting their own challenges, continuing with tricky away matches at Oldham and Bradford.

Results in League Two have been unpredictable all season as individual clubs have put good runs together, only for them to fall apart.

We will not win every match up to the end of the season, but it is how we minimise the losses that might be the deciding factor. We have a comparatively strong squad now but as Evatt is aware, there is a lot of hard work still to be done.
