A BOROUGH Conservative group leader has accused its Labour leaders of trying to 'stifle democracy'.
At Hyndburn council's Resources Scrutiny Meeting last week Cllr Marlene Haworth said her group would not present an alternative budget but would put forward amendments to Labour's plans at Thursday's Full Council meeting.
She said “Two Labour councillors said this should not be allowed and the controlling group should go straight to the vote and ignore our amendments.
"Once again Labour are trying to stifle democracy."
Council leader Cllr Miles Parkinson said: "Of course the Conservative group through Cllr Haworth will have the ability to put forward amendments to the budget to be debated as always."
