A COUNCILLOR has spoken out against people who share ‘Covid-19 vaccine fake news’.
Councillor Hussain Akhtar, who represents the Shear Brow ward, said it is important everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated has the jab as soon as they are invited.
Coun Akhtar, 72 was vaccinated at his home yesterday and urged others to follow in his footsteps.
Despite the vaccine being approved by Islamic scholars there are still myths being circulated that the ingredients of the vaccination are unlawful from an Islamic perspective or the vaccine would alter your DNA.
He said: “In my family I have doctors and pharmacists and I was advised this was very important.
“It is important for our health and our betterment and I felt as a community person that I should do this and show people that everything is fine.
“I have done it to make people aware and already I am getting some great comments from people.
“I advise people who are eligible not to give up the chance to be vaccinated when they are invited to do so. My wife is going to be inoculated too.
“I feel very strongly that we should protect ourselves.
“There is a lot of nonsense out there being shared and we all have a duty to do this for one another.
“So let’s help one another and let’s get things back to normal.”
