ONE person has been rescued as twelve fire engines tackle a fire at a derelict building.

At around 4am today, twelve fire engines from Lancashire and Greater Manchester, along with several specialist appliances, attended a fire at a single storey, derelict building located on George Street, Chorley.

One casualty was rescued and received precautionary checks from NWAS personnel.

"If you are in the area and are affected by smoke, please keep your windows and doors shut."

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform to bring the fire under control.

At 7am, firefighters with breathing apparatus withdrew but were still at the scene.

Lancashire fire tweeted: "Update on the ongoing fire in #Chorley - we are working with @LancsPolice and @ElectricityNW to make the sene safe.
