ONLY one area in Blackburn with Darwen has recorded a decrease in its coronavirus infection rate, with cases spiralling out of control in many others.
The only place in the borough to record less cases week on week is Lammack and Revidge, where a 20.5 per cent drop has been recorded in new infections.
In the seven days to January 3, 35 new cases were reported in the area, which now has an infection rate of 393.7 – way below the national average.
At the other end of the spectrum South Darwen and Whitehall; Darwen Town and Beardwood, Pleasington and Livesey have all seen rates soar over Christmas and New Year.
South Darwen and Whitehall recorded the highest percentage hike, 269.6 per cent, after 85 new cases lifted the area’s infection rate to 1,010.9 cases per 100,000 people.
Beardwood, Pleasington and Livesey recorded a 209.5 per cent increase in rate, after 65 new cases were reported over the seven day period data is available for. The rate of infection now stands at 790.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Darwen Town had the third largest increase, 177 per cent, after 50 new cases were reported. The area has an infection rate of 787.0.
Ewood and Fenhurst, which had previously seen a hike in cases, recorded a 52.2 per cent rise in infection rate, giving it the highest in Blackburn with Darwen – 1,209.8 cases per 100,000 people.
