Blackburn Youth Zone (BYZ) have revealed they will be offering a range of services throughout the lockdown to young people and families.

Interim Chief Executive, Zaffer Khan said, "As you will be aware, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a new national lockdown, effective from Tuesday 5 January. In line with the changes to the National Youth Agency (NYA) guidelines, we remain committed to supporting the young people of Blackburn with Darwen.

"We are working on the following services to roll out to support young people of Blackburn with Darwen during this phase of the lockdown."

These will include digital sessions each day; welfare calls; detached and outdoor local youth services and 1-2-1 sessions (indoors from 11 January).

In addition to this BYZ said they would offer support for vulnerable young people in groups of up to 15 at any one time (indoors from 11 January). The organisation said it would also explore opportunities to support in the delivery of food parcels and hot food to young people.

Zaffer said: "Supporting young people at this very difficult time is our priority. But we have to balance that commitment with the safety of our staff.

"We continue to follow all guidance from the NYA and take advice from Blackburn with Darwen public health, and the BwD Health and Safety team. We have a range of measures to keep our members safe when they are on site for limited provision."
