LOVE Southampton, a broad network of churches and Christian charities across Southampton, in partnership with the city council, is stepping up once again during the second lockdown.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, Love Southampton has provided support to thousands of people across the city in a united response to the pandemic.

As a network, they have given away more than £150,000 worth of food to hungry families and individuals, delivering food to 690 self-isolating households, providing seven days a week food drops to hotels, hostels and B&Bs during the height of the first lockdown.

They looked particularly to those most in need of help - the hungry, families, older people, those sleeping rough, refugees and asylum seekers, and anyone with mental health needs.

Cookie, who received support from Love Southampton, told the Daily Echo: "Thanks to the churches’ love and support, through the food deliveries and so much more, I’ve felt so connected and cared for. I’ve struggled in the past with addiction and depression, but I feel loved and supported.”

The Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP (Chair, All Party Parliamentary Group on Faith and Society) said this about the group's work: “All over the country during this crisis, churches are playing a remarkable, central role, in partnership with local and central government. I applaud the work of Love Southampton in supporting people across the city, and am full of admiration for everyone involved.”

Efforts are currently focused around food, debt, and the rising need amongst students.

More delivery drivers for food packages are urgently needed.
