THE driver of a black Volkswagen was arrested after being caught at the wheel whilst under the influence of drugs.

Police in Consett stopped the Volkswagen Polo in the town centre on Sunday night, after receiving a call about the vehicle from a concerned member of the public.

A police spokesperson said: "Two of the passengers were found in possession of controlled drugs and the driver failed the roadside drugs wipe.

"The passengers were reported and the driver arrested."

Anyone with information about drugs in their community is encouraged to call police on 101.
