High achieving pupils at Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College (TIGHS) have secured places at top universities following their success at sixth form.

Although exams were cancelled this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers at the school continued to support pupils to ensure that their futures remained bright.

Throughout sixth form, teachers, parents and staff at the school, all helped pupils work to become the very best they could be. Many of TIGHS’ pupils are now looking forward to completing degree courses at prestigious universities across the country.

For A’Aishah Patel, her education will continue at the University of Manchester where she will read Politics, Philosophy and Economics. The bright pupil achieved 3A*s – in History, Sociology and Chemistry and 1A - in Maths.

A’Aishah said: “I am overwhelmed to have achieved such incredible grades in all four subjects and so happy to be able to go on to the university and course of my choice. After a summer of so much anxiety and worry, it is a huge relief to receive these grades.”

Ayesha Moosa is looking forward to studying Law at the University of Leeds after securing three A*s - in Religious Studies, Politics and Sociology. Ayesha thanked her teachers, who she said had helped her to achieve her dreams.

She said: “It has been a dreadful few months and my heart goes out to everyone affected by the pandemic in so many different ways. I am so grateful to my teachers for all of their support and reassurance every step of the way. Without them, and the devotion of my parents, I simply would not have achieved my dreams today.”

Aneesah Kholwadia has secured a place at the University of Cambridge to study English after she was awarded an A* in Psychology, A* in English Literature and an A in Chemistry.

She said: “I am so pleased to have this opportunity of a lifetime to study at such a prestigious university and feel so blessed to have so many amazing people in my life who have helped get to this moment.”

Asia Ali, Head of Sixth Form at TIGHS, described the pupils’ achievements as ‘wonderful’ and thanked pupils and staff “for their sincere devotion and constant efforts throughout the past year”.

She said: “Although exams were rightly cancelled this year, it is still important for us all to celebrate and praise the achievements of each young person just as in any other year. Our pupils worked with dedication and commitment throughout their course and these results are very much deserved.

“We are now focusing on the year ahead and looking forward to supporting next year’s pupils to go on to achieve their very best.”

The Sixth Form College at Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School has over 200 students completing a range of A-Level and vocational courses.

A’Aishah Patel achieved 3A*s in History, Sociology and Chemistry and 1A - in Maths and will be studying at the University of Manchester where she will read Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

Aneesah Kholwadia was awarded an A* in Psychology, A* in English Literature and an A in Chemistry. She is going on to study English at The University of Cambridge.

Ghofran Alarbi received an A* in Psychology, A* in Arabic, A in Biology and an A in Chemistry. She is set to study Medicine at The University of Manchester.

Humayra Namazi received an A in Psychology, A in Biology, an A in Chemistry and an A in Urdu. She will be studying Dentistry at The University of Manchester.

Khadeejah Patel was awarded an A in English Language, A* in Religious Studies and an A in Chemistry. She will be studying Audiology at The University of Manchester.
