Police are investigating after a group armed with baseball bats and knives confronted a man on a street in Oswaldtwistle.

The incident began on Haworth Street at around 5.30pm, where a man was followed by the group in three cars on to Paddock Street.

A number of them got out the car armed with baseball bats and knives, before smashing up a Mini parked up on the street and trying to enter a house.

Two cars – a silver Honda Accord and a light coloured Honda Civic – were found abandoned nearby shortly afterwards.

Officers said they believe these vehicles were involved in the incident and want to speak to two drivers who were on the street at the time.

Detective Inspector Mark Gillibrand, from Blackburn Police, said: “I would like to reassure local residents that we think the offenders and the man they were looking for are known to each other and it relates to an on-going dispute.

“We know that there were a couple of vehicles driving through Paddock Street but were unable to pass because of the commotion on the street.

“One of these was a red VW van and the other was a dark coloured Volvo saloon-type car.

"If you think this was you, or you know anything about the incident, we need you to make contact. We are particularly interested in any dash cam footage."
