POLICE have confirmed that a 'homicide' investigation is underway after a man died following a serious assault.

An altercation between two men was reported at Screwfix on Gateway 49 Trade Park in Bewsey on the morning of Thursday, July 2.

Warrington Guardian:

Andrew Webster was rushed to Aintree Hospital after the incident and had been in a critical condition.

But the 51-year-old, from Warrington, died from his injuries yesterday afternoon, having reportedly been in a coma previously.

And Cheshire Police have confirmed to the Warrington Guardian this morning, Thursday, that detectives are treating their probe as a ‘homicide investigation’.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, but was later released pending further enquiries.

An air ambulance was called to the scene on the Kerfoot Street industrial estate last week.

The store was cordoned off into the afternoon, with a forensics tent being set up outside.

A force spokesman said last night: “Shortly after 10am on Thursday, July 2, police were called to reports of an altercation between two men on Gateway 49 Trade Park.

“Officers attended the scene and found a 51-year-old man with serious injuries.

Warrington Guardian:

“Andrew Webster, from Warrington, was taken to hospital but sadly died.

“His family are being supported by specialist officers.

“As part of enquiries into the circumstances, a 24-year-old man was arrested and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.”

Detective sergeant Candice Sivori had earlier described the attack as an ‘isolated incident’ and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
