RESURFACING works will begin on the M77 in the city’s South Side this Monday.

The road will be subject to an overnight closure northbound between junction 5 and 3 between 8 pm and 6 am on Monday, July 13 until Saturday, July 18.

There will also be daytime lane management of M77 northbound on the inside lane between junction 5 and 3 with the additional closure of the junction 3 off slip on Saturday, July 18 from 6 am to 8 pm only.

The road takes in areas including Pollok, Darnley, Nitshill before heading out of Glasgow into East Kilbride, Eaglesham and Newton Mearns.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for journeys and a diversion route will be in place.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer, said: “This 850m stretch of trunk road is an important route connecting Kilmarnock, Ayr and the Cairnryan ferry ports with Glasgow and the Central Belt. As such it is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working.

“It is important that we continue resurfacing works in order to maintain road safety. Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and therefore any such impact on the travelling public will also remain low at this time.”
