A GLASGOW Club personal trainer will be holding an online workout tomorrow to raise money for two charities.

Scott Marshall, 29, is inviting people of all ages and fitness abilities to join him for the live online charity workout.

The money raised will be split between the Rangers Charity Foundation and their national partner, Children 1st – Scotland’s National Children’s charity which provides lifeline support to children and their families.

Scott, who lives in Abbeyhill Street in the city’s East End, wanted to organise his own fundraising event after hearing how both charities have been massively affected by the cancellation and postponement of fundraising events.

He said: “Both charities do amazing work and I wanted to give something back to help them during the Coronavirus lockdown.

“I know it’s a difficult time for many families just now and that a lot of them will be struggling as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“But both of these charities are doing incredible work to support families right now.”

Scott, who was furloughed from his job as a personal trainer at the Glasgow Club Scotstoun, has been offering free online workout sessions to help people with their mental and physical health during lockdown.

It was through those sessions that Scott got chatting to Gary Kernahan who is the director of fundraising at Children 1st.

After hearing from Gary about the incredible work that the charity is doing to support children and families, Scott decided to organise an online fundraising workout.

Scott said: “During lockdown I got talking to Gary and I came up with this idea to run an online workout.

“He mentioned that Children 1st has a partnership with the Rangers Charity Foundation.

“I’m a big supporter of the Rangers Charity Foundation as I have led the warm-ups for their 5k run for the past two years and I’ve also done bucket collections, sleep outs, charity cycles and the pay to play events at Ibrox.

“So I thought it would be great to organise a fitness session to raise money for both charities.”

Scott hopes to encourage as many people as possible to donate £5 and take part in the live workout on Sunday.

He added: “The workout is for all fitness levels as I’ll go through each body weight exercise.”

Gary Kernahan, the director of fundraising at Children 1st, said: “I met Scott last year when I was training for the London Marathon.

“I was struggling with injuries but Scott put a training plan together and it really helped me to complete the marathon.

“Scott is incredibly generous as he has been hosting free fitness sessions online during lockdown.

“We’re delighted that he’s organised this live workout on Sunday.

“The idea is that it’s a workout for everybody so it’s a great way to enjoy some family time as well as getting physically active and helping the charities.”

Rachel Cummins, Senior Communications Executive at the Rangers Charity Foundation, added: “We are extremely proud to have been in partnership with Children 1st throughout season 2019/20 and look forward to seeing Blues and beyond come together for a wonderful cause.

“Within our partnership, the Foundation has committed to donating £20,000 to Children 1st in support of their Parentline, and we will ensure that every penny raised on Sunday will go towards this important initiative.

“We’d like to thank Scott for his continued support – he’s a shining of example of how the Rangers Family can make a difference.”

The money raised for Children 1st will support its national helpline and digital support service Parentline.

During lockdown, Parentline has experienced a huge surge in the number of calls it has received from families.

The charity has also seen the number of visitors to their webpages increase by almost 400 per cent and has expanded its Money Advice Service to support families nationally via Parentline in order to meet demand.

Scott’s live virtual workout takes place on Sunday at 12pm and is £5 to enter.
