COASTGUARDS and a lifeboat crew were alerted after concerns were raised about paddleboarders in difficulty.
The Mudeford Lifeboat and Southbourne Coastguards were called to the Fisherman's Walk area of Southbourne just after 8.30pm yesterday.
They had been told five paddleboarders were heading east but making poor progress.
The lifeboat was launched due to failing light and concern for welfare.
Coastguards spoke to the informant and a thorough search was carried out.
Three paddleboarders were located close to the shore but not in any difficulty.
They concluded it was a false alarm with good intent.
