POLICE officers across Blackburn are seeking to reassure members of the community following a recent drive-by shooting which resulted in the death of a 19-year-old.

Neighbourhood officers, Response Officers, Mounted Officers and several other departments are out and about in the community providing reassurance and answering any concerns.

The increased numbers of officers on the streets comes after law student Aya Hachem was tragically killed after being shot in the chest as she walked up King Street in Blackburn on Sunday.

A mobile police van which people can call into is currently van situated on Lidl car park on Whalley Banks and volunteers from the ARC project have offered their services by assisting with translations.

A police spokesman said: “In light of recent events in Blackburn we are aware that some residents may be concerned and unsettled.

“We want to reassure you that we have Neighbourhood officers, Response Officers, Mounted Officers and several other departments out in the community providing reassurance and answering your concerns.

“We currently have a mobile Police van situated on Lidl car park on Whalley Banks, if you have any concerns or want to provide any information please come and see us, we have Neighbourhood officers in the van 9am-9pm. 

“Please don’t hesitate to come and speak with us (but at an acceptable distance of course), we want to speak with you so we can gauge how local residents are feeling.
