EIGHT men from Blackburn have been arrested after an attack in Preston city centre left a man fighting for his life.

Police have now issued a CCTV images appeal over two other men they believe may have been involved in the incident.

Around 2.40am on Sunday February 16, a 20-year-old man was found with serious injuries at the junction with Church Street and Avenham Street, close to the Co-Op bank.

The victim, from Preston, suffered several cuts, facial fractures and bleeds on the brain. He was taken to hospital and after surgery remains in a critical condition.

Two other men, aged 19 and 20, were also attacked during the incident, suffering minor injuries.

The eight men, aged between 19 and 31, from Blackburn, have been arrested on suspicion of assault. Seven have been released under investigation. The eighth, a 22-year-old man who was arrested yesterday, remains in police custody.

Detectives are urging anyone who recognises the men, seen here on CCTV in a nearby bar, shortly before the attack, to contact 101.
