HOURS after he had been released on bail by the town’s magistrates a man threw a glass at another man in a Burnley town centre pub.

Blackburn magistrates heard Mark Anthony Tomlinson chased the other man into the Brun Lea at 7pm causing distress to staff and customers.

Tomlinson, 35, of Kime Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £21 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the bar manager at the Brun Lea said just after 7pm a man ran into the pub chased by the defendant.

The first man ran behind the bar and Tomlinson picked up a glass from a table and threw it at him. The manager said he was shocked by the incident and pressed the emergency panic button.

“The police arrived quickly and arrested the defendant,” said Miss Allan. “Earlier that day he had appeared before Burnley magistrates and been released on bail on matters that were sent to the Crown Court.”

Laura Heywood, defending, said a man had been contacting her client’s 14-year-old daughter and he had bumped into him in the town centre, giving chase into the pub.
