Book of Condolence - Mo Shaffi

"Tributes and messages of condolence for teacher Mo Shaffi"

We asked for your responses - this is what you sent.

From Carol Trueman

What is your response?I worked with Mo at Normanton Freeston. He was always fun to work with. He had a lovely relaxed way with all the students. They loved him! We always knew where to find him because you could hear the students shouting his name down the corridor. Always a very pleasant man with a heart of gold. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. RIP Mo.

From Community contributor

What is your response?I had the pleasure of working with Mumtaz (Mo) Shaffi until 2009 at Freeston Business and Enterprise College Normanton. He had a very amiable disposition and would do his upmost to help his students. I am so saddened by this news. He was well liked by both staff and students. Rest in peace my friend

From Jordan Stephens

What is your response?Mr Mo Shaffi was always a great pleasure to be around. Even though he was a supply teacher that would often cover a range of subjects, you’d still end up learning something from him. He was someone who consistently saw the good in people and made those who were on their own feel like someone cared about them inside that classroom. RIP Mr Shaffi

The moment I started working at the school he was there to guide me help me integrate into the school and to enjoy everyday with his smile and funny attitude. What is your response?Mr Shaffi was more than just a supply teacher at St Bede's and St Josephs. He was a man who defined exactly what it means to be at St Bede's and St Josephs. I remember the first time he was my supply, and that was in a pe lesson in year 7. And from year 7 to 11 he was a supply in a lot of my lessons. The last time I ever saw Mr Shaffi was in year 12 and he attempted to help me find the class I was supposed to be in. What is your response? An amazing member of staff at our school. I’ve only been in the school for 2 and a half years but known him as I’m always getting detentions and he’d be the teacher who’d take students to inclusion or their detentions. He’s a favourable teacher of many students including my own, people refer to him as a legendary supply teacher, however I’d like to add he was more than a supply teacher, he’d collect people for inclusion and detentions. This unfortunate death has affected a lot of people, students and teachers. My form teacher, Mrs Clifford, was telling us about how saddened she was about both our teachers deaths the other day, Mr Shaffi and Mrs Willon, I don’t really know Mrs willon and wasn’t really close with her, but both legacies will be with our school forever. He was also a kick-boxer in his younger years as you can see I’ve contributed one of his kick boxing photos
