A HIGH-FLYING director paid a visit to the school that started him on his journey to working with the stars.

KC Locke returned to Lostock College, where he studied in the early 00s, to give students advice he’s learned over his career so far.

Now a famed director, Mr Locke has created the music video for huge artists, including the likes of Ed Sheeran and Stormzy.

But the road to success has not been easy, the former student told pupils now attending the school. He was inspired by Lostock College’s performing arts programme which got him to pick up a camera for the first time and fought for every chance at making films — weddings, company promotions and more.

Speaking in the arts theatre, Mr Locke said: “When I was here, I didn’t get all As, but this is the room that inspired my whole journey 15 years ago.

“I used to wash cars , I’ve washed pots in a kitchen, but I wanted to make sure this was my real job. I was dedicated.

“The teachers here try to give you as much as possible — I have definitely taken the school with me.”

Although the director flies around the world for shoots, most recently to South Africa to film his first TV commercial for Love Island, the 30-year-old still lives in Urmston. He’s been working to put Manchester on the map, even using a greenhouse in Urmston in one of his music videos.

Students gathered for his talk about Mr Locke’s career were impressed and soaked in the advice. Year 10 Amelia said: “It gives you an idea of what to expect if you want to be in this industry.”

Fellow Year 10 Jimson said: “It shows that no matter where you come from you can do what you want if you work hard enough. It’s amazing he has worked with people we all know.”

Amanda Childs, the careers co-ordinator who arranged the visit to inspire the students, said: “To see someone that went to the local college still achieving and living in the area — it makes them realise that it’s actually doable for them.”
