A CYCLIST was rescued by a medical helicopter after being knocked out during an incident at the top of Rivington Pike.

Emergency services were called at about 12.30pm on a chilly afternoon this Saturday (November 16) after walkers found the man unconscious.

Bolton's Mountain Rescue Team was sent to find his location and members of the group arrived at the top of the pike at around 1pm.

When they reached the scene the man was being helped by first aiders from a running event which had been happening on the hill and together they managed to treat him.

However, because of the remote location, they had to call for an air ambulance which landed at the top of the pike and took the injured cyclist away to the Royal Preston Hospital.
