A WOMAN has suffered a serious head injury after being hit by a car.
She was struck by a red Nissan Micra in Harwood Road, Rishton, shortly before 3.30pm today.
Police said the driver of the Micra stopped at the scene.
The ambulance said it also attended the incident and treated the woman for head and leg injuries.
A police spokesman said: "Police were informed by the ambulance service of a collision between a red Nissan Micra and female pedestrian, shortly before 3.30pm.
"The woman has suffered serious head injuries."
The incident happened near to St Peter and St Paul's school.
A resident of nearby Stourton Street said the stretch of road has been an 'accident waiting to happen for years.'
He said: "The volume of traffic just can’t cope especially when Hyndburn Academy and St Peter and St Paul’s school close around 3pm.”
