A CRASH that resembled a 'battle field' shook an idyllic village.
The extraordinary image, dug out from the Lancashire Telegraph's archives, captures the scene of a lorry crash in Waddington near Clitheroe.
It happened in 1979 after a lorry crashed into a building in the centre of the village, causing massive damage to the premises.
Residents, many of which are young children on bikes, can be seen looking on in shock.
As police co-ordinated the operation, a heavy duty breakdown truck prepares to tow away the lorry with the fire brigade on stand-by.
The incident happened in August during the school summer holidays and youngsters and residents from the village gathered to watch what was going on.
