A MICROPUB has been given permission to enable it to extend its opening hours for times of year when demand is greater.

The Firkin on High Street, Newton-le-Willows submitted a request to St Helens Council to extend the times it can open.

The pub says it would not be looking to make use of the extended hours all the time but to enable it to have flexibility for certain times of the year "if demand dictates" such as around Christmas.

Currently it has permission for opening times on Thursdays of 5.30pm to 11.30pm.

The applications will allow the premises to open Mondays to Thursdays from 1pm to 11.30pm.

The micropub would open for the same hours as previously, from noon to midnight, on Fridays and Saturdays and be open from noon to 11.30pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, providing an extra 30 minutes.
