A POPULAR Lancashire tourist attraction is open for business despite a fire last night.

Coral Island Amusements on the Promenade in Blackpool was on fire and crews were called to the incident at 11.37pm.

Bosses at Coral Island posted an update on their Facebook page.

It read: "Today we are open as usual!

"Overnight, there has been a fire at Coral Island, this was caused by an electrical fault on an external light.

"The fire was rapidly controlled by our extensive sprinkler system and we are extremely thankful for the quick response of the fire services.

"No-one was harmed during the fire, for which we are very grateful and there has been no significant damage to Coral Island.

"We appreciate all of the kind messages we have received and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to Coral Island soon."

Four fire engines from Blackpool, South Shore and Bispham were called to the blaze and firefighters were at the scene for nearly two hours.  

Ian Armistead, station manager at Blackpool Fire Station said: "(I have) Spoken to the Incident Commander (from Lancashire Fire Service) this morning confirmed the fire crews quickly knocked the fire preventing further damage. Well done all."
