A busy town centre road has fully re-opened this week after work to improve its appearance and provide better access ahead of the Market Walk extension opening later this year.

Union Street, which links Park Road to the Clifford Street bypass, has been one-way for several weeks with work to install an underground utility connection coinciding with the improvement works.

Cllr Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “We appreciated everyone’s patience while we’ve completed the work but it is all now complete and there should be no more major disruption to the road network.

“It’s really exciting to see the Market Walk extension almost finished and we are now in the process of handing over the units to the tenants with most already starting the fit out.

“A lot of the fencing has come down around the site and it gives people a better feel for how it will look.

“If you have been avoiding Union Street or the town centre while the roadworks have been taking place we’d urge you to come back and support our local traders.”

The work has also seen a few new parking places created as well as a new bus stop outside Booths. The road has been traffic calmed by reducing the width and improving pedestrian space.
