500 mature cannabis plants were found at a Leyland industrial unit after a raid by police last week.

Officers descended on the business premises in Talbot Road, Chandler Business Park, off Golden Hill Lane in Leyland at 7.25pm on Wednesday night.

Sgt Paul Harrison, of Chorley Police said: "This was a very well organised set-up with 500 mature plants and I would say it was one of the biggest cannabis farms I have seen in my time in the police.

"Two men of Asian origin ran off from the scene and inquiries are still ongoing with the owners of the property and local businesses to establish and identify the individuals

"We have seized the items with the help of South Ribble Council to dispose of the rubbish.

"Pots and compost have been donated to a local dementia charity for Dementia in Bloom.

"A lot of money has been put in to set up this cannabis operation.

"With the amount of cannabis smoked then it can have an impact on people's mental health so this was a huge success to get it before it was distributed.

"We would urge the people to make check of who is renting their properties or if someone is sub-letting it that they know what is going on and who they are."
