MORE than 3,000 runners are expected to take part in the upcoming Bury 10k.

The charity race, in its fourth annual year, takes in some of Bury's most famous landmarks, including the Fusilier Museum, Bury Parish Church and Bury Town Hall.

Several road closures will be in place to accommodate the run on Sunday, September 15, temporarily affecting Jubilee Way, Manchester Way, Angouleme Way and Dumers Lane, to name a few.

The Bury 10k is organised by the Asda Foundation in partnership with the I Will If You Will (IWIYW) fitness movement, delivered by Bury Council.

In total, more than three thousand have registered to take part and what is especially heartening is to see that the run has grown in popularity every year.

According to programme manager, Pritesh Patel, the run is designed for all abilities and is "fantastic for bringing the community together".

The run will start at The Rock and features a musically accompanied tour of the town. To make sure everyone has the most fun possible, runners are strongly encouraged to wear fancy dress and to bring earphones.

Organisers have teamed up with partner charities The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Bury Hospice, The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, as well as WHAG, a charity that gives housing to homeless people seeking refuge from domestic abuse. In addition to these, runners can have donations sent to any charity of their choice.

Cllr Jane Black, who opened the event last year during her term of office as Mayor of Bury, said: "It was a privilege to wave the flag. I am very pleased to see how the run has become a very successful event, growing in popularity year on year."

Also taking place will be the Family Fun Run on September 16, which has also proved popular among young people, as more than 300 people have signed on already.

A mass warm up for the Bury 10k will take place at 9.10am, with the race starting at 9.30am.

It will require the closure of roads and road junctions as well as the suspension of a number of Traffic Regulation Orders between 8.30am and 12.30pm on Sunday, September 15. It will also require the suspension of parking from 7am on Saturday, September 14 until 4pm on Sunday, September 15.

Participants must be aged 15 and above, and have registered before 5pm on Thursday, September 12 via https://bury19.eventdesq.com/.
