PLANS have been submitted for 10 homes on a former poultry farm near Darwen.

Joanna Cheetham, of Good and Tillotson Ltd from Bolton are the agents for Mr A Shorrocks the application, who wish to build the houses on the site near to Waterside Brook in Eccleshill.

In a statement to Blackburn with Darwen planners, Good Tillotson said the ‘site has become derelict, and the existing buildings on the site were demolished as they became unsafe’.

It added: “Ideally, regeneration of the site is required, and it believed that a well-considered high quality residential development will provide an uplift to the area. In addition it is felt that the proposed upgrade to the existing unmade access road would be very much welcomed by the existing residents at Victoria buildings.”

Cllr Julie Slater, who represents the West Pennine ward, said: “The landowner had tried to sell it and it has become a bit of a mess.

“I would like to see something done with the land.

“I am a bit concerned that 10 houses will bring 30 cars down that road. I would like to see a lot less as this road leading to it has been unadopted since year dot.

“It needs to be right and I know the council has to reach targets for housing but I would rather it be three or four houses.”
