SIX months after her cancer returned, Millie O’Shea has celebrated her sixteenth birthday with a very special prom.

The Shawforth teenager was first diagnosed with a Wilms' tumour as a schoolgirl, but after intensive treatment was given the all clear in 2008. However in February a large tumour was detected in Millie’s lung and further investigation found a multitude of smaller tumours. But despite her recent diagnosis and the fact she is currently undergoing treatment, Millie was still keen to celebrate her birthday and prom in style.

The teenager, who obtained a distinction in her BTEC PE from Whitworth Community High School, along with her friends and family, organised a special prom in Rawtenstall as she had been too ill to attend the school's event.

A free helicopter ride was provided by Paul Harrison from Britannia, with Millie taking off from Lobden Gold Course in Whitworth before landing at Marls Pits where a white Ranger Rover was waiting for her. Millie's mum Susan said: “Around 200 people were there and it was very special. We had kept that week free of treatment, but her levels were low so chemotherapy was delayed until the Monday of that week. She did so well and even managed to get up on the dance floor for a little while.”
