A DRUG addict who dealt crack cocaine and heroin from the back of his children’s home has been jailed.

Preston Crown Court heard how Aqib Javed Butt had been given a two-year restraining order by Blackburn magistrates in December after being convicted of assaulting his partner of four years, with whom he has two children.

As part of that order he was banned from contacting her or going to her home in Blackburn.

However, prosecutor Paul Brookwell said at 7pm on June 24 Butt’s ex saw him at the top her street saying that he wanted to speak to her.

She went into her house but 26-year-old Butt forced his way in behind her.

Mr Brookwell said: “She took the children upstairs to bed because she didn’t want them to see his aggressive behaviour. She came downstairs.

“The defendant said he wouldn’t leave. When she went to make the 999 call the defendant took the phone from her. He sat on the sofa and went through the messages on her phone.”

The court heard how Butt slept on his ex-partner’s sofa overnight. When she came downstairs to take the children to nursery Butt was shouting at her for trying to call the police, Mr Brookwell said. The prosecutor said her plan was to get the children to the safety of nursery before calling the police.

Mr Brookwell said Butt came to be arrested later that afternoon after a plain clothes officer witnessed the defendant supply two men with wraps of heroin and crack cocaine at the back of his ex-partner’s home.

Mr Brookwell said: “The men were observed coming out of the alleyway in question. They were stopped by the police. They were found in possession of the individual wrap. The defendant was found at the rear of the premises.

“A search of the house was made. Drugs were found in the kitchen and the kitchen drawer. A drug packaging kit was found in his daughter’s bedroom.”

In total police found 19 wraps of heroin, valued at £190, 22 wraps of cocaine, valued at £220, as well as £185 in cash.

Butt was interviewed and provided a written prepared statement in which he said the cash found in the house was his, he was in debt and he had been asked to wrap drugs.

Butt, of Conway Avenue, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply and breaching a restraining order.

Defending, Neil Howard said Butt was living in a bail hostel in Ellesmere Port after a spell in jail but the probation service allowed him to return to Blackburn.

Mr Howard said: “When he returns to Blackburn he returns to his previous associates. He returns to taking cocaine.”

Jailing Butt for three years, Recorder Sarah Johnston said: “You have demonstrated yourself to be capable of controlling behaviour, breaching a court order, as well as having no regard for your children or the law.”
