A MAN who injured his leg in a walk on Winter Hill was saved by search and rescue operatives.

Bolton Mountain Rescue Team were called in by police yesterday and sent a group of 11 people up the hill searching for the immobile walker at around 2pm.

The team discovered the man and carried him on a stretched half a mile over the rough terrain to a converted Landrover used as an ambulance.

He was found to have hurt his lower leg and was then to hospital.

The mountain rescue covers a distance of 800 sq km stretching from Darwen in the north, to Manchester Airport in the south, Wigan to the west and the centre of Manchester to the east.
