TWO couples have revealed their plans to create a "one of a kind" bakery and cafe.
The group of friends want to bring their unique idea of a British-Asian fusion food outlet to Astley Bridge.
The menu would feature British-style cakes and pastries but also offer Asian-style sweets and savouries such as Methi.
Zuber and Saleha Ibrahim together with friends Imran and Nafisa Patel want to open their new business within the next six months.
Mr Ibrahim, who has previously run an online business, explained how he and his friend, Mr Patel, came up with the idea.
He said: “The idea started as a bakery and we thought, why don’t we combine Asian and British savouries and sweets?
“We saw an opportunity because there’s nothing like that in the area. It’s a new thing that’s not really been done."
The entrepreneur told The Bolton News that his and Mr Patel's wives were good bakers but he and his business partner would also help out in the kitchen.
Plans to convert a former fabric shop in Blackburn Road to a cafe and bakery have been submitted to the council.
The owner of Alvi’s Exclusive Fabrics in Blackburn Road would lease the premises to the Ibrahims and Patels if the changes are approved.
Latif Patel, who owns the business which has been closed for some time, has submitted a "prior notification application" for a change of use at the premises.
Planning officers are due to make a decision by the end of June.
