TARMAC slapped on a new walkway has been branded a monstrosity.
Resident Jeff Green made the discovery on the pavement outside The Boot Inn pub, Parker Lane, Burnley, on Monday.
Work on the walkway was completed as part of a scheme which included resurfacing worn-out paving in the town centre.
But council chiefs said the walkway has been temporarily tarmacked while engineers carry out emergency repairs on a power cable.
Mr Green, from Burnley, said: "The tarmac is a monstrosity."
A Burnley council spokesman said: "Electricity North West have carried out some emergency repairs on a power cable.
"The tarmac is a temporary fill to avoid trip hazards from the work.
"Once the tarmac has settled, it will be repaired."
