SCHOOL and nursery children dressed up as their favourite characters for World Book Day — from princesses to a UFC fighter.

Parents worked their magic to design costumes or popped to the shops as kids embraced the day which was wiped out last year by the Beast from the East.

Harry Potter was one of the most popular themes, along with princesses, Where’s Wally, pirates and Mr Stink.

One of the most original entries was St Luke and St Philip's School pupil Mark Madden, 5, who dressed up as Conor McGregor.

Mum Bobbie-Jo Martin said: “His dad Sam is into boxing and UFC and he just loves him. I went through all the characters such as Buzz Lightyear but did not want it.
