A CHORLEY fish and chip shop has been a winner at the National Fish & Chip awards.

Nana Jan’s Fish and Chip shop in Buckshaw Village was recognised for developing a new brand identity, ‘fabulous food made with love’, promoted through staff uniforms, leaflets, on social media and via a mobile app.

Nana Jan’s was assessed against a wide variety of judging criteria, including audience segmentation, promotional budget allocation,  planning and implementation of marketing campaigns and the results of this activity on the business over the past year.

Janet Colclough, owner of Nana Jan's said: "We are absolutely thrilled, there was 600 people there.

"The award is just testament to the hard work we have put in on the brand.

"We are new to the industry and have just dipped our toes in the water and we thought we had something innovative in terms of having an in-house delivery service and branded car.

"It was brave as we did not know if the financials would stack up but it has and it is testament to the support we have had to the people of Buckshaw and even Chorley to win.

"We are only new to the trade but there is no reason why we can't win the best fish and chip shop award in future."

Janet added a word of thanks should go to Debra Fisher, owner of Creative Graphics UK in Todmorden who devised our material and supported their campaign.

Marcus Coleman, Chief Executive at Seafish, said: “As competition intensifies between the increasingly wide variety of casual dining and takeaway food businesses across the UK, fish and chip shops and restaurants such as Nana Jan’s have had to keep ahead of the curve by cleverly marketing their business and products to ensure they appeal to both their loyal customers and to potential customers.

“Nana Jan’s have demonstrated some truly unique marketing strategies, creative thinking and the ingenuity required to set their businesses apart from competitors.

"While selling a great portion of fish and chips is the cornerstone for any business in the trade, those who have harnessed the power of effective marketing are really reaping the rewards in a fiercely competitive industry.”

Anna Bengtsson Senior Brand Manager at award sponsor Pukka Pies, said: “The quality of marketing and promotional activity undertaken by fish and chip businesses is of prime importance to the growth and success of such enterprises, and it’s great to recognise a business that has demonstrated great creativity and innovation, setting a high standard for their industry peers to aspire to.

“Through our sponsorship of this particular award category, we want to encourage all fish and chip businesses to strive for excellence with their marketing activity and to understand the benefits that marketing can have for their businesses and the collective spin-off for the wider industry as a whole.”
