HUNDREDS of model train enthusiasts descended upon Prestatyn Parish Church to celebrate of small scale steam engines and create paper trains.

Modellers from the Rhyl and District Model Railway Club - and as far away as Sheffield - joined Prestatyn mayor, cllr Anton Sampson, for the annual exhibition which this year was held in aid of charities Ty Gobaith Hospice and the Pet Rescue Welfare Fund.

In addition to 15 layouts and various stalls, this year's event welcomed Sophie Ridge, of the Greenfield Valley Heritage trust who led children in colouring in and folding their own paper trains.

Martin Wild, exhibition manager , said:"It was a very successful show once again, with about two hundred people coming along to help us raise at least several hundred pounds between both of the charities.

"While it wasn't a record breaker, compared to the snow last year the weather certainly helped us as well as the popularity of shows like Channel 5's Great Model Railway Challenge."

Prestatyn model train enthusiast Steve Fenner said: "The show was very well attended with hundreds of model railways fans young and old enjoying the layouts and other stalls.

"Cllr Sampson, the mayor chatted with the attendees and was especially interested in the model van collection customises with the logos of Prestatyn businesses from now and the past."
