A STORE detective turned super sleuth after a woman was seen on CCTV stealing LOL dolls.

Blackburn magistrates heard the security officer was a member of the Burnley Buy an Sell Facebook group and received a notification that someone was selling a large number of the dolls.

She checked the Facebook profile of the seller and immediately recognised her as the person caught on CCTV loading the dolls into a bag and leaving without paying.

Roxanne Jackson, 30, of Frazer Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing 14 dolls from Tesco in Burnley.

She was ordered to pay £140 compensation, £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting said the original charge had alleged the theft of 24 dolls but the plea to 14 had been accepted

Mark Williams, defending, said it had been an act of desperation on the part of his client, a single parent of two.

She had missed a medical appointment which meant her employment support allowance was suspended.

"There was a period of time where she didn't have sufficient money to manage," said Mr Williams.

"She committed this offence out of desperation."
