AN investigation has been launched after a driver made off from a crash - leaving a pensioner and a woman with serious injuries.

A Honda Accord and a Vauxhall Astra crashed in Mellor Lane near the Whinney Lane junction at around 1.30am on Monday.

Police said the driver of the Vauxhall is believed to have made off from the scene, leaving the driver of the Honda, a 76-year-old man from Osbaldeston with serious chest injuries.

A passenger from the Vauxhall, a 21-year-old woman suffered a serious hip injury, the pair were taken to hospital.

The road was closed for five hours while traffic investigators carried out their work.

One of the people involved had to be cut from one of the cars, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Sgt David Hurst said: "We are appealing for information after a serious road traffic collision in Blackburn.

"Two people have been left with serious injuries and we want to establish exactly what has happened.
