A MAN who was arrested over a rape allegation has been released under investigation.

The alleged incident happened down the side of Hogarths on Church Street in Preston City Centre in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Detectives have now launched an investigation into the alleged attack which took place at around 3am.

The alleged victim is a 34-year-old woman. 

Following public appeals, a 29-year-old Chorley man attended a police station yesterday afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of rape.

He is no longer in police custody and has been released under investigation.

DI Warren Atkinson from Preston CID said: “I would like to reassure people that incidents of this nature are rare in Preston City Centre.

“If you saw or know anything that could assist with our investigation, please get in touch as you could hold vital information.”
