The classic coming-of-age story Kes takes to the Chorley Little Theatre stage this month in a dynamic new production from Chorley Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society.
Based on the Barry Hines book, made famous as a film by Ken Loach, the production stars 19-year-old newcomer Lewis Wren as Billy Casper, a failing schoolboy who develops a new passion for life when he trains a young kestrel.
Set in Yorkshire in 1968 the play charts Billy’s struggles with those around him as he looks for a way out of his working-class hardship. Featuring funny moments and heartfelt drama, the story has been an enduring favourite for more than 40 years.
The cast also features Joanne Cunliffe as Billy’s single-parent mum, with the headmaster and the PE teacher played by real-life teachers John Griffin and Andrew Kidd.
It runs from Monday, February 25 until Saturday, March 2 at 7.30pm every night at Chorley Little Theatre. Tickets are £6 Monday-Wednesday and £8 Thursday-Saturday from Malcolm’s Musicland 01257 264362 or www.chorleytheatre.com.
