Chorley Citizen review by Tyrone Marshall from October 9, 2007.

San Marco's Italian restaurant is one of the true hidden gems of Chorley's town centre.

The intimate and stylish eatery is situated just yards from the town centre, in Cheapside.

A converted house, San Marco's is a small restaurant, over two floors, with tables tightly packed in, but still retains a wonderful ambience.

The kitchen is also open plan in the corner of the downstairs section, allowing diners to see their food being cooked from start to finish.

Throughout the week San Marco's also offers a three course set menu for £9.95, which is excellent value for the size and quality of the food.

For starters I decided to go with a personal favourite, the mussels, in a delicious tomato sauce, while my partner went for the breaded mushrooms, in a garlic and cheese sauce. Both were reasonably sized portions for starters and were delicious appetisers.

The menu offers a wide selection of mains, although the £9.95 menu allows just pizza with three toppings or a pasta dish.

My partner went for a pepperoni pizza, while I decided to go for a very Italian pizza, topped with delightful Parma ham and dolcelatte, a traditional Italian blue cheese.

Both meals were excellent size and value, and were enjoyed thoroughly.

It adds to the experience of a meal if you can see the pizza being cooked from the table vantage point.

The only drawback from an otherwise excellent restaurant is the range of drinks on offer, mainly due to a lack of space from any pumps and barrels. Several bottles of wine were available, but the only bottled beer was Peroni and Budweiser.
