THIS is the moment a boy risked his life by trespassing on a railway line in order to switch platforms.

Officers are appealing for information as to the identity of the youth captured on CCTV at Chorley Station.

And they are warning young people to stay away from the railway and stay safe during the festive holidays.

Police have only just released details of the incident which happened on Tuesday, August 28 at approximately 7.50pm.

But British Transport Police, which patrols tracks and stations, is moving to stop children being killed or injured on the lines In a incident caught on CCTV, a youth is also seen to climb down onto the tracks where he stays for over two minutes.

Sergeant Paul Longstaff of BTP said. "I cannot emphasise the dangers of trespassing on the railway strongly enough.

"Had a train passed through the station at top speed he may not have been able to get off the tracks in time, endangering both his own life and the lives of everyone traveling on the train.

"Trespassing on the railway is a serious offence and I would like to stress that incidents such as this will not be taken lightly.

"I hope that anyone who recognises the boy from the CCTV footage will contact BTP"

Police released the footage following the conviction of Andrew Ogden, 21, of Chorley who pled guilty to obstruction without intent earlier this month.

He was captured on CCTV jumping out the path of an oncoming train at a Chorley level crossing. He is due to be sentenced in January next year.

Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
