Adam Critchley led home ten Chorley Harriers runners at the Belmont Winter Hill Race, with a good effort in 38.24.
The race was an Inter Counties event, but in the club vest section, Lynne Clough was 2nd lady in 42.17 and Jan Atkins took the 1st Vet60 prize in 53.58. Steve Thomas ran well in 48.21, just a few minutes behind Paul Jackson. Peter Downs clocked 48.43 to hold off Dan Edwards by over a minute. Marie Dewhurst was 2nd lady Harrier over the line in 54.23 ahead of Janet Chaplin and Libby Daultrey.
Seven Harriers made the trip to Buttermere, in the Lake District, for the Sailbeck Horseshoe - the toughest middle distance race on the calendar.
The heat slowed up many runners over the 9.5 mile course with 4650ft of climbing, but Jackie Redmayne revelled in it to beat her time from last year by five minutes with a great run in 2 hours 23mins. Of the first timers at this race, John Sutton was home on the two hour mark with Ian Williams only a couple of minutes on his trail. Natasha Fellowes was home in 2 hours 17mins with Paul Jackson around the 2.20 mark.
However Malc Christie, Pete Starkey and Karl Pitt enjoyed the challenge but found the searing heat to be a significant factor in failing to get anywhere near their previous best times.
