Chorley all-rounder Tom Smith has been left out Lancashire's match against Nottinghamshire.
Smith had been in contention for a place in the County Championship match starting at Old Trafford today, having shaken off a thigh injury, and he played in the county's second XI match at Blackpool against Scotland A earlier this week.
But he was omitted from the starting XI along with Kyle Hogg, with Lancashire opting for a four man bowling attack of Oliver Newby, Saj Mahmood, Gary Keedy and Dominic Cork.
Captain Stuart Law is missing due to a broken finger.
Law broke his right index finger during net practice at Old Trafford at the end of last month, and his participation in this fixture was always going to be long shot considering the nature of the injury.
Luke Sutton is once again leading the side in Law's absence. New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent is making his debut with Lancashire's original overseas player Brad Hodge still on international duty with Australia, and Mohammad Yousuf returning to Pakistan to participate in an international One Day Tri-Series against Bangladesh and India.
