A teenage golfer is on course for a career in the sport after excelling on his course at Myerscough College.

The appropriately named Tom Ryder, from Clayton-le-Woods, has graduated from the college with a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Golf Studies, passing the course with flying colours.

His achievements saw him being named as the outstanding student of the year in the college’s recent graduation ceremony at their Bilsborrow campus.

The 19-year-old said he was delighted with the way his course had gone and was looking forward to the future.

Tom, said: “I enjoyed the balance between the academic work and playing golf.

“Practising was fun and enjoyable and the facilities at the college are great. I’ve created fantastic relationships with students and tutors and I’ll always remember the positive attitude all around the campus.

“I’m looking forward to hopefully working abroad this winter to gain even more experience of coaching before applying to study at a university in America next year.’”

Former Parklands High School student Tom, from Clayton-Le-Woods, will now take a gap year from education before continuing his studies.
