Tough day for Chorley juniors

On a bitterly cold and very wet day, Chorley under 12s travelled to Preston Grasshoppers to take part in back to back matches against Preston and Fylde to complete a rearranged Lancashire cup tie.

Chorley's first game was against a very big and well drilled Hoppers side who took an early lead.

It could have been much worse for Chorley, but for some brave cover tackling and sheer determination.

Hoppers continued to throw everything at Chorley and their persistence soon paid off with two more quick tryies to lead at half time 19-0.

The second half saw a marked improvement from Chorley and they appeared to be working their way back into the game with some clever kicking by Luke Stewart who was having his first start in the number 9 shirt.

His put their full back under constant pressure, but despite wave upon wave of Chorley attacks they just could not break through a solid Hoppers defence and with time running out for Chorley, Hoppers closed out the game with two late tries and wonning the game 33-0.

Chorley's second game also proved a real test, but captain Nathan Murphy rallied his players and led by example contesting for the ball at every given opportunity.

As conditions deteriorated, Chorley stuck to the task but again just could not find that break through they so desperately deserved and in the end Fylde just proved too strong coming out on top to win 19-0.
